Position Summary
The Communications Intern supports the communications and public engagement efforts of Central
Carolina Community Foundation. This role is designed for a student or early-career professional
seeking hands-on experience in nonprofit communications, storytelling, and marketing.
The Communications Intern works closely with the Communications Associate and Director of
Communications and Public Engagement to assist in developing and executing content that advances
the Foundation’s mission of promoting, increasing, and facilitating philanthropy across the Midlands.
This position offers the opportunity to build practical skills in writing, digital media, and content
strategy while contributing to meaningful community impact.
Key Responsibilities
Communications
• Assist in the development, writing, and editing of content for newsletters, blog posts, social
media, and the Foundation’s website.
• Support the creation and scheduling of social media content, ensuring consistency with the
Foundation’s voice and priorities.
• Conduct research and interviews to develop compelling stories that highlight the Foundation’s
impact, partners, and initiatives.
• Assist in capturing and producing multimedia content, including photography and video, for
use across communication channels.
• Support proofreading and editing of communications materials, including press releases and
marketing collateral.
Content Strategy and Analytics
• Assist in implementing communications plans and campaigns across digital platforms.
• Track and analyze performance metrics for newsletters, social media, and website content.
• Provide insights and recommendations to improve engagement and reach based on analytics.
Public Engagement Support
• Assist with planning and execution of Foundation events and initiatives, including providing
on-site support such as photography/videography and social media coverage.
• Represent the Foundation professionally in interactions with community members, partners,
and stakeholders.
Organizational and Administrative Support
• Organize and maintain communications assets, including photos, videos, and media
coverage.
• Assist with maintaining content calendars and ensuring deadlines are met.
• Provide support for communications-related projects and team needs.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in communications, public
relations, marketing, journalism, or a related field.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
• Interest in storytelling, nonprofit communications, and community impact.
• Familiarity with social media platforms and basic content creation tools.
• Experience with photography, videography, or design tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or
similar) preferred.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
• Strong organizational skills and willingness to learn.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
Schedule & Compensation
• Approximately 10–20 hours per week.
• In-person role; schedule is flexible within standard business hours, with occasional evening or
event support as needed.
• Hourly rate: $13 for undergraduate students; $14 for graduate students
