The South Carolina State Museum is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Traveling Exhibitions Program (TEP) Outreach Assistant to work in the Curatorial Affairs Department assisting with the Museum’s Traveling Exhibition Program. The TEP Outreach Assistant will serve directly under the Collections Outreach Manager as a member of the Museum Services Program.

To mark the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution and the founding of the United States, SCSM, in partnership with the South Carolina Historical Society, is creating and touring a traveling exhibition to tell the story of the American Revolution in South Carolina. This exhibit will highlight the state's crucial role in the war and its significant contribution to achieving American victory. Alongside the conventional storyline, the exhibition will highlight the opposition of Loyalists in South Carolina, the intricate dilemmas confronted by indigenous peoples and enslaved Africans as they navigated allegiances, and the invaluable contributions of women across all groups.

Duties:

  • Assist with coordinating schedule and travel logistics for the upcoming SC250 anniversary Revolutionary War traveling exhibition and associated travel trunks
  • Identify new venues and exhibition partners for Revolutionary War traveling exhibitions
  • Transportation to and from venues as needed 
  • Assist with requests for information regarding the Traveling Exhibit Program 
  • Assist Collection Outreach Manager with varying aspects of the Traveling Exhibition Program
    • Condition Reporting for outgoing and incoming Traveling Exhibitions
    • Traveling exhibition upkeep and routing maintenance
    • (TEP) room upkeep
    • Exhibition transfers
    • Assist Collections Management and Curatorial Affairs staff in gallery installs and deinstalls (as needed)
    • Other duties as necessary
Minimum and Additional Requirements:
  •  
  • Have a valid driver’s license and be willing to drive vans and box trucks
  • Ability to climb under barriers and on ladders
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working within either a museum, art gallery or educational institution. (Preferred applicant: Individuals interested in or currently pursuing a degree directly related to arts administration and museum management.)
  • A passion for museums and community development.
  • PC proficient (Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe)

This position is limited to 29.5 hours a week. Hours may vary based on museum needs.
