Christian “Chris” Stormer, CPA, a shareholder with Bauknight Pietras & Stormer, P.A., (BPS), has been elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the Delaware Captive Insurance Association (DCIA) Delaware is among the top ten captive insurance domiciles in the United States with more than 550 active captive insurance companies, a specialized niche in the insurance industry that enables companies to establish an alternative risk financing mechanism in the form of a licensed insurance company to self insure specified risks.
Stormer is one of 14 individuals from across the United States on the DCIA Board and will serve a three-year term. Delaware is one of approximately 40 states that serve as onshore captive domiciles. Captive insurance companies along with Fortune 500 companies choose to domicile in Delaware due to the state’s longstanding leadership with respect to corporate law and favorable insurance business environment.
DCIA President Joanne Shaver remarked, “Chris is a highly regarded member of captive community. The DCIA is looking forward to having him serve our the board of directors.”
Stormer joined BPS in 1992 and has made the insurance industry a core focus of his practice. Today, he and the firm are nationally recognized as leaders in the captive insurance industry and are highly sought after as consultants in business formation, audit and assurance, and tax issues. His background in providing services to alternative risk clients began with Ernst & Young. Stormer now leads BPS’s services to regulated insurance carriers, risk retention groups, association captives, and pure captive insurance companies throughout the United States.
Commenting on the board appointment, Stormer said, “Captive insurance continues to be highly attractive to companies and associations that want greater control over their insurance programs, their coverage and costs. I look forward to being an active board member and helping to lead Delaware’s captive insurance initiative.”
In addition to serving on the Delaware board of directors, Stormer is the former chairman, president and treasure of the South Carolina Captive Insurance Association; and a member of similar associations in North Carolina and Vermont. A graduate of Clemson University, he is a member of the AICPA and South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants.
