DESCRIPTION:The breathtaking view from atop the ferris wheel.  That first sweet bite of funnel cake.  One lucky duck you picked up that won you a giant teddy bear. \n\n \n\nFrom corn dogs and blue ribbon roses to roller coasters and prize-winning pigs\, there are hundreds of ways to be a part of the fair and thousands of memories made every year.\n\n\n\nThe South Carolina State Fair is best known for bringing 12 days of exhibits\, competitions\, food\, midway rides and big-name entertainment to Columbia each October. It's ranked one of the Top 50 fairs in the United States.\n\n\n\nThe organization\, though\, operates year-round. With six exhibit halls and 115 acres adjacent to the University of South Carolina's Williams-Brice Stadium\, the fair offers football parking and is a popular venue for major events such as craft shows\, home and garden shows\, boat shows\, civic functions and charitable fundraisers.\n\n\n\nA self-supporting 501(c)3 non-profit organization\, the fair fulfills its mission to educate young adults by awarding scholarships and since 1997\, has granted more than $3 million to South Carolina students.\n\n\n\nIn order to celebrate the Fort Jackson Centennial\, this event will offer military discounts or special recognition for the role Fort Jackson plays in our community. Join the Columbia Chamber and Fort Jackson for a year-long celebration to commemorate 100 years of partnerships between the Fort and the Midlands.\n\n\n\nOn Thursday\, October 20\, 2016\, the South Carolina State Fair will be celebrating Fort Jackson. Soldiers and their families are admitted free on this day to celebrate the day's graduation and the Fort Jackson Centennial.\n\n \n\nPerforming will be the Saluda River Academy for the Arts\, Lexington School District Two Elementary group\, and  the Fort Jackson 282nd Band.
