SUMMARY:Project READY (Realistic Education about Dying Young)
DESCRIPTION:Palmetto Health believes that since risk-taking is a natural part of adolescence\, the youth need the opportunity to see the consequences of their choices. This is accomplished through Palmetto Health's reality-based education program called Project READY (Realistic Education about Dying Young)\, which exposes adolescents from Richland\, Lexington\, and Fairfield counties to the Palmetto Health Richland Level I Trauma Center.\n\n\n\nDuring a Project READY (5hr) session\, participants will:\n\n	talk with trauma surgeons and Emergency Room (ER) doctors\;\n	touch and feel the real equipment used to treat injuries in the operating room\;\n see inside a real ER\, trauma bay\, and morgue\;\n witness a pretend trauma patient scene in the ER\; and\n interact with physical\, occupational\, and speech therapist and experience firsthand the daily challenges experienced by injured trauma patients.\n\nPresenters in session may include the Think First program\, SC Department of Public Safety\, SLED\, or National Safety Council of SC ("Alive at 25" program). Some presentations will include graphic images of injured trauma patients which may be disturbing to teens.\n\n\n\n**A light breakfast and lunch will be provided to registered participants.\n\n**There will be adult supervision during sessions (parents may drop-off and pick-up teens).
